Prenatal Theory Classes

This 7-hour prenatal course is designed for couples preparing to welcome their first child together, whether it's a first birth for both partners or one of them has already been through it in a previous relationship. We'll cover how labour and birth unfold, alongside the different ways to manage pain and the purpose of certain obstetric interventions. By the end of the course, participants should have a clear understanding of how each of their choices shapes the way they'll experience their baby's birth, and they'll be well prepared for going home with their newborn.

Topics covered:

• The last weeks of pregnancy (common discomforts and the famous hospital bag)
• Physiological birth: understanding it for a smoother labour
• The close link between birth hormones and how labour progresses
• Pain relief methods: natural and pharmacological options
• The epidural: when, how and, above all, why?
• Obstetric interventions: benefits, risks, pros, cons and alternatives
• Supporting the labouring mother: tips, tricks and techniques for partners
• Informed choice: your rights and your responsibilities
• Welcoming your newborn and breastfeeding basics
• Tips and advice to make the first weeks with baby easier

Classes are taught by Isabelle Veilleux, perinatal counsellor, birth doula for 25 years, prenatal educator and mom.

Classes are kept small (3 to 5 couples) to create an intimate setting, with personalized guidance and plenty of feedback.

To help meet the course goals and practise the hands-on exercises, the training takes place over two consecutive days, for a total of about 7 hours (Friday 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
